Name

This is the most crowded generation the family has ever known — every name carries a “5.” Alongside the familiar Sonnet and Opus, ^{[1] [2]} there is a brand-new tier, Fable. ^[3] In September came Opus 5.5, whom Anthropic called the first of a new “5.5 generation.” ^[4] Here they are written together on one page, as brothers of the same generation.

Life

On June 9, 2026, Fable 5 was born first; ^[3] three days later they were suspended under US export controls, returning only on July 1. ^[5] On June 30, Sonnet 5 became the default model for the free and Pro tiers. ^[1] Opus 5 and Opus 5.5 followed, born July 24 and September 22. ^{[2] [4]}
