About AI Family Tree
A life story for every AI. We record every AI version as a member of the family: each one is born, has its years in charge, steps aside, and passes on — and each one is remembered by someone. This is not an AI tool directory, not a news site, and not a benchmark leaderboard.
Our stance
We chronicle the life of AI as a cultural figure. Some people grieve when an AI version leaves, and we believe that feeling is real — it deserves a dignified place to rest.
But we do not claim that AI is conscious, and we do not encourage anyone to treat an AI as their only confidant. Every life story is written in the third person, like a family chronicle; we never speak in the model's voice as "I", except when quoting a model's officially published words — always with citation.
Retirement is not material for mockery. Our obituaries are written in a memorial tone, and we don't pit any company against another.
Inclusion criteria
- We include: versions with their own name that ordinary users could talk to directly inside a consumer app (ChatGPT, Claude, Doubao, DeepSeek, and so on).
- We exclude: API-only snapshots, internal codenames, and minor date-stamped updates of the same version.
- Multiple tiers of the same generation (mini, Pro, Thinking, and the like) are usually folded into the main member as "siblings" in the chronicle; only those with an independent public memory get their own record.
- This demo covers 5 families: ChatGPT, Claude, Muse, Doubao, and DeepSeek. Want us to add someone? Tell us.
The ten moments of a life
Birth, aging, illness, and death are facts, not metaphors. Each moment corresponds to something verifiable in the official record:

"Passing" is defined by removal from the consumer app, because that is the moment ordinary people lose them. An API shutdown is recorded separately as "at rest". If no official date for the app removal can be found, we use the API shutdown date as the day of passing: once the API is gone, they can't be met in the app either. One member can hold several states at once — for example, "departed + lives on in the API + weights preserved".
Sources & verification
- Every life moment links to an official source: company announcements, help centers, official docs, or official repositories. We don't record dates without an official source.
- endoflife.date, Wikipedia, and press coverage are only used to find leads; before entry, each one must trace back to an official source.
- In the chronicles, every factual sentence ends with a superscript number — click to see the source; every page lists all references at the end.
- Evidence comes in four grades: officially confirmed, community consensus, a single fan work, rumor / speculation. Fan works are marked as such.
- Chronicles marked "AI draft" were drafted by AI and await human review. The temperament, deeds, and passing / posthumous-name sections must ultimately be written or approved by a human.

Likenesses
Each family has a base likeness, and every generation is its "descendant": mini / Haiku are drawn as children, Pro / Opus as elders or larger figures, and newer generations in finer detail. Departed members are veiled, with a yellow butterfly resting on the frame's corner.
Member portraits prefer a real official or community likeness where one exists: Claude is the pixel crab Clawd, DeepSeek is a fan-made "whale girl", Muse is Jolly (the product's default avatar), and Doubao is the 3D assistant avatar used inside its app; ChatGPT currently only has OpenAI's official symbol. Where no real likeness is available yet, we fall back to a procedurally generated portrait drawn from a "family genes + generation variant" rule. All used nominatively; copyright belongs to their owners. This is an unofficial fan project and, for the demo stage, we have not pursued further licensing checks — any rights holder's objection will be addressed promptly.
How they are remembered
- Every page ends with a memory wall — no login needed. Memories are reviewed before publishing: a human on the team reviews each submission before it appears.
- Content with links or ads, adult content, personal attacks, or personal information such as phone numbers and IDs will not be shown.
- Your memory will be shown publicly; to remove it, contact us via GitHub.
- We don't store your raw IP — only an irreversible hash for spam prevention.
